the horrible truth about the new Sony 18MP sensor

You find here the first samples from the HX20V / HX30V and the HX200V and some comparisons to other cameras.
Updated with a HX30V ISO comparison, a HX30V vs HX200V ISO 800 overcast sample and an indoor purple fringing sample.
Sony claims the 18MP sensor it has twice the sensitivity on a pixel level what results in one sixth of the image noise of the previous model (seen here)

really Sony - you think this is progress? you got to be kidding!

Now we come to the Sony 18MP results - read on, but if you have a weak stomach get your barf bag ready...

Let´s compare the 12MP Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ150 with the 18MP Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V to see how much better the brand new Sony sensor is and how much truth in Sony´s claim is that this sensor is better than then 12 MP sensor they compare it with on their sensor website.
... and since this is a HX9V blog why don´t we add a couple HX9V images for good measure.

You find the original images and more on the German Chip.de website, links are below the samples.

  1. Yes the new sensor is horrible. I saw some other pics on a website and saw some heavy corner distortions and pics were very blotchy as well. I will be holding onto my HX9V for a while.
