This short analysis answers the questions:
How much does the color suffer in high ISO?
Do we actually get more usable resolution with the 16MP sensor compared with the 10MP sensor and an identical lens?
How good is the Hand Held Twilight mode compared to a tripod shot in low ISO?
And just for fun lets battle the 16MP Sony HX7V against the 16MP Sony A55

Sony HX7V ISO comparison from 125 to 3200

Sony HX7V 16MP - click on image for original size and quality crop (1600x1600)

Sony HX7V 16MP - click on image for original size and quality crop (1600x1600)
From  the sample above it looks to me to rather shoot with a higher ISO (ISO 800 would have been OK) to preserve the detail and color better.

just for fun lets battle the Sony HX7V against the Sony A55

Sony HX7V vs Sony A55 - big areas of low contrast gray and the smothering smoother at work

Sony HX7V vs Sony A55 - instant astro-turf thanks to the smothering smoother

Sony HX7V vs Sony A55 - the bright areas in the center are quite good and have lot of detail
only the dark areas tell us about the sensor size

  2. Thank you for your compliment Anuvab Mandal and yes I put a lot of work into this little blog but I guess making fun of the Sony boss in one of my first postings did lower my chance of a big pay day - but I have still hope Google might discover me and buy me out ;)
